Can Living on a Fixed Income Be a Blessing in Disguise for Seniors?
by Heidi Nestor, Writer and Editor, Life Alert

With the rising price of everything these days, it’s no surprise senior citizens need to be cost conscious on what they buy.  Even moving into a retirement home has become a financial strain but could this be a blessing in disguise?  With the cost of retirement communities, the Aging in Place trend has seniors remaining in their own homes; and although it’s for financial reasons, there is an underlining emotional benefit to this. Ask any elder where they would like to live and the vast majority will prominently declare, “In my own home!”

However, this isn’t always the best option for adult children who worry about their parent’s well-being.  Too many accidents, such as falls or kitchen fires, have adult children looking into relocating parents to a retirement home or having them move in.  But falls and fires can still occur when the adult children are at work all day; and when seniors don’t have added help and protection, aging in place isn’t always possible.  That’s where Life Alert comes in!

In a survey taken by ACNielsen International Research, 87% of Life Alert members said that Life Alert's protection is a main or important factor in their decision to keep living at home rather than going to a retirement institution.   Life Alert’s medical alert system can help senior citizens live independently while giving adult children peace of mind.

The Life Alert Protection System has a personal emergency response monitor with a light-weight pendant or watch.  The pendant/watch has a help button so that if an emergency occurs all the senior need do is push the button to summon help through the monitor in the home.

The Life Alert Protection System doesn’t require any home reconstruction or lifestyle change.  Just set the monitor on a flat surface, plug it in, and go on with life.  If an emergency occurs, just press the help button on the pendant or wristband and a dispatcher will notify emergency help, contact your family, and stay on the line with you until help arrives.  You don’t even need to pick up the phone because our two-way communication monitor allows you to talk to our dispatchers.  In the event you can’t speak, we will notify emergency help immediately.  And the pendant is waterproof too so you can be protected while bathing.
Here’s the best part, Life Alert’s 36 month membership is less than 1 month’s rent in a retirement community.  There’s no disguising that financial blessing!  So Seniors, when adult children want you to move into a retirement community so you can feel safer, just tell them you can’t afford it (or better yet – tell them that you don’t want to spend their inheritance), and that Life Alert Protection will be a more cost effective way to go.

Unless 24-hour professional nurse care is needed, Life Alert provides seniors valuable independence at an inexpensive cost and allows them to remain in their own home. Life Alert’s medical alert system gives peace of mind to family members while providing emergency service to their loved ones when needed.  Now that’s a blessing of a good buy.
